Description:

The Bridge Engineer will play a key role in performing and overseeing technical designs, development of projects from conceptual to final design, oversee the preparation of contract plans and documents, and mentor junior staff. While the primary focus of this position is bridge engineering; there will also be building assignments, typically related to public works-related structures such as wastewater treatment plant structures, pump stations, salt sheds, etc. If you are passionate about structural engineering and contributing to impactful projects, we encourage you to apply and be a part of our dynamic team.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in and lead the preparation of bridge and building design documents, including design calculations, AutoCAD or Microstation plans, specifications, and quantities.
  • Develop designs for multiple state DOTs and municipalities.
  • Prepare formal reports.
  • Occasionally take part as a member of a field crew on structural inspections.
  • Supervise/coordinate and mentor junior staff.
  • Collaborate across internal disciplines and office locations.

Preferred location is BETA’s Manchester office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Requirements:

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Professional Engineer license required w/ ability to attain licensure in multiple New England states
  • 7 to 12 years of bridge engineering experience
  • Bridge design experience required
  • NH or MassDOT design experience required
  • Strong background in structural analysis and theory
  • Strong technical and critical thinking skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong AutoCAD skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Enthusiasm to learn and willingness to take on responsibility
  • Willing to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Strong Microstation skills
  • Finite element analysis skills
  • Building experience
  • MaineDOT/VTrans/RIDOT/CTDOT experience
