About the Role:
Asphalt Contractors, Inc. is seeking a detail-driven and versatile Staff Accountant to join our team. This role goes beyond traditional accounting tasks—you’ll manage key financial processes including AP, AR, and collections, while also supporting plant operations, ticketing systems, and company-wide initiatives. The ideal candidate is not only accurate and efficient with numbers, but also adaptable and willing to assist where needed across our business functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
Oversee customer invoicing and vendor payment processes
Monitor, track, and follow up on customer collections
Perform account reconciliations and prepare journal entries
Support month-end and year-end closing processes
Assist with financial reporting and budgeting tasks as needed
Maintain accurate and organized financial records
Cross-Functional Business Support:
Provide administrative and system support for our aggregate pits and asphalt plants, including trucking program coordination and ticket reconciliation
Act as a liaison between accounting and operations to ensure timely processing of load tickets and billing
Support HR with onboarding documentation, employee file maintenance, and ad hoc projects
Answer phones professionally and provide backup support for the front office as needed
Assist with process improvements and implementation of internal controls
Handle general administrative tasks and special projects assigned by leadership
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred, or equivalent professional experience
3+ years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in construction, manufacturing, or a similar industry
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (QuickBooks, Viewpoint, Sage, or similar systems a plus)
Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally
Willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and pitch in wherever needed
