Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire an energetic licensed Registered Nurse to serve as facility-wide Employee Health Nurse for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee Illinois. The incumbent will monitor the review of all suspected and proven infections, develop and review facility Infection Control policies and procedures and provide clinical advice and guidance to treatment staff on the implementation of infection control procedures. The Shapiro Center serves a broad spectrum of individuals with behavioral and medical needs.

Essential Functions

• Serves as a Center Employee Health Nurse.
• Instructs and reviews related forms completed by employees claiming service-connected injuries.
• Serves as facility-wide Health Services Nurse Coordinator.
• Conducts Center in-services and provides orientation to new employees as required.
• Provides education and conducts training in conjunction with the Training Coordinator in staff development classes related to health and infection control issues.
• Participates in standing Center committees and other Statewide committees as warranted.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires (a) graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing and two (2) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience OR (b) a bachelor’s degree in nursing and one (1) year of professional nursing experience OR (c) a master’s degree in nursing.
• Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.

Conditions of Employment

• Requires ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
• Requires the ability to obtain the Certification of Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) within two years of employment.
• Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays on a rotation basis.
• Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
• Requires the ability to serve on an on-call rotation basis.
• Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Requires the ability to use office equipment, including personal computers and basic computer skills.
• Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
• Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
