The Engineering Lab Machinist will have the responsibility of cutting and machining metallic and non-metallic material test coupons. This includes interpreting engineering drawings, cutting and machining test coupons to specification standards, and communicating with personnel such as engineers outside of the functional lab team. The test coupon machinist will work under the direction of Team Leaders and experienced machinists to complete assigned daily and weekly tasks in an effective and efficient manner. In addition, the machinist may be called upon to participate across other lab functional areas based on the work demand and priorities each day.

What YOU will do

• Works with, limited to some supervision using process instructions, test plans or other written specifications to perform job duties.
• Under direction of Team Leaders and experienced machinists, responsible for meeting productivity, quality, and safety requirements.
• Must have familiarity with use of hand tools, calibrated measurement tools, table saws, band saws, drill presses, manual lathes, manual mills, and be capable of performing hands on work.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, and use of office productivity tools such as word, excel, PowerPoint.
• Cutting of composite and metallic coupons to support ATL lab functional areas
• Understanding dimensions and tolerances of engineering drawings

What YOU must bring to Succeed

• Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field from an accredited university with a minimum of 1 year of experience in a composite manufacturing or machining environment OR High school diploma or GED equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a composite manufacturing or machining environment. Composite machining experience is a plus.

• Have a current vehicle driver’s license, and the ability to use electric lift, tow, and transportation golf carts.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple job scopes as required.

Desired Characteristics

• Experience with Metallic & Composite machining to industry standards (ASTMs, NAS, MIL-SPECs)
• Self-starting and self-motivated team player
• Ability to multitask and handle tasks with competing priorities effectively
• Basic computer skills with experience with Microsoft Excel/PowerPoint/Word
• Familiarity with SAP applications
• Trade school background (carpentry, body shop, machine shop)

Estimate salary range for this role: $26.60 to $39 per hour. Overtime eligible role. ST Engineering considers several factors with extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, education/training/certification, job level, and work location. Base salary is only one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.
