Job Description

Maritime Officers serve to detect and prevent security threats affecting ships or port facilities. They provide access control, inspection, patrol, and administrative services in accordance with Florida State Statute 311 and Title 33 of the Code of Federal Regulations. Their role is vital in deterring, detecting, and disrupting security threats. Working under law enforcement direction, Maritime Officers promote public safety and facilitate the legitimate flow of trade and travel. Primary Responsibilities: Perform access control driver screening for secure/restricted areas. Conduct vehicle security inspections. Issue temporary access credentials. Prepare reports and maintain records per agency policy. Screen foreign and U.S. Mariners during embarkation/debarkation. Implement MARSEC protocols as directed. Conduct security patrols of cargo and cruise terminal areas. Control access to inactive cruise terminals and cargo gates. Escort TWIC cardholders as directed. Provide security for special terminal events. Support security and administrative functions at the Maritime Center. Participate in training new employees. Conduct fuel pipeline inspections. Submit maintenance work orders for supervisory review. Provide vessel security at piers. Patrol parking lots and garages. Assist and provide information to port visitors. Stay informed on current security threats and patterns. Recognize and detect dangerous substances and devices. Maintain department vehicles, equipment, and uniforms per policies. Maintain regular, dependable, and punctual attendance. Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED. Valid Florida Class E Driver's License (must be maintained). Successful completion of Sheriff's Office pre-employment medical and psychological exams. Security-related or law enforcement experience preferred. Must pass drug tests before and during employment. Work Schedule: 12-hour shifts from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, including weekends and holidays. Availability for emergencies and natural disasters is required. This role involves both indoor and outdoor work, with exposure to weather conditions such as heat, cold, humidity, and fog. The position requires normal visual and auditory acuity, color perception, and other sensory abilities. During emergencies, staffing decisions will prioritize law enforcement and correctional facility operations.
