About Endless Access

At Endless, our vision is simple: the whole world, empowered. We believe access to digital tools and skills is essential to realizing that vision. Through our learning programs and open-source initiatives, we ensure that underserved and under-resourced communities worldwide can become not just digital consumers, but digital creators.

We are building an open-source game-making community where learners, educators, and contributors come together to create, collaborate, and share. This community spans multiple environments and serves as a critical element of the product - our games and learning experience. It connects members to collaborative game development, learning materials, project showcases, mentorship, peer learning opportunities, and more.

About the Role

The Community Experience Lead is the architect and manager of our global community ecosystem. You will design, iterate, and evolve highly creative technical and social infrastructure that makes large-scale collaboration possible, in the same sense as open community projects such as Wikipedia or Linux.

You will build the connective tissue between projects, people, and experiences; defining contributor pathways and establishing governance and moderation models that ensure safety, equity, and clarity. Youll run and refine engagement frameworks and the tooling behind them, while also ensuring partners, moderators, and independent contributors can plug in seamlessly.

If you thrive at the intersection of community design, open-source culture, gaming, play, and systems thinking, this is your opportunity to shape the future of a collaborative game-making and learning movement. If you love both planning the system and operating it day-to-day, youll be at home here.

Key Responsibilities

Engage & Operate the Community

  • Own the day-to-day: community announcements, handle support requests, and coordinate moderator schedules across time zones.
  • Implement recognition and reward systems, community role progression, and permissions.
  • Maintain a calendar of events for the learner community, coordinating with marketing, progra,m and game teams on program deployment, cohorts, calendars, and shared events.
  • Support discussion, mentor, and industry expert sessions tied to learning and game development.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive environment, ensuring equity and accessibility.
  • Maintain mentor profiles/permissions on the Endless Studios platform and community chat tool; track mentor performance and recognize and celebrate talent.

Champion Open-Source Practice

  • Act as the organizations open-source community expert, guiding teams on community norms, contribution workflows, and governance.
  • Model effective open-source communication and collaborative development within the community.
  • Promote the use of open-source tools and practices, and help learners navigate the unique culture of open collaboration.
  • Advocate for open-source values across teams, embedding them into product design, learning programs, and community strategy.
  • Translate open-source norms into actionable contribution checklists, templates, and onboarding paths.

Enable the Platform

  • Set up a clear, accessible community structure, including channels, tiers, roles, permissions, and contribution workflows.
  • Ensure platform readiness for partner spaces, roles, and data handling, including privacy and security.
  • Design, manage, and maintain technical community infrastructure, ensuring seamless engagement across chat services, GitHub, and our Endless Studio platform.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team and act as a lightweight admin for integrations, APIs, authentication systems, bots, and webhooks that connect the community to the broader ecosystem.
  • Facilitate interoperability between community and learning platforms, promoting open-source collaboration and game development among diverse audiences.

Safeguard & Govern

  • Maintain and enforce a Code of Conduct and a practical moderation model, including recruitment and training of moderators.
  • Support the development of and enforce safety models and policies.
  • Define processes for incident response and escalation.
  • Provide technical guidance, routes, and implement community-led support models.

Share Knowledge

  • Develop onboarding, documentation, and guidelines for learners, mentors, and independent contributors.
  • Support pathways for peer-to-peer mentorship and community-led support models to decentralize assistance.
  • Publish release notes (in collaboration with games, learning, and platform) to keep members and partners aligned.
  • Support and inform the product design of acquisition and retention loops to engage, maintain, and expand a thriving multilingual, global community.

Measure & Improve

  • Define and track engagement and retention metrics with effective dashboards and a regular reporting cadence.
  • Iterate policies, workflows, and tools based on evidence and outcomes.
  • Interface with the wider program team to inform feedback and improvements across acquisition strategy, program experience, and roadmap priorities.

Who You Are

  • Passionate about equitable, inclusive community design with time-served community-building experience.
  • Excellent communicator, able to translate and disseminate complex technical information on multiple levels.
  • Strong technical background with experience in APIs, integrations, bots, automation, and platform administration.
  • Skilled in systems thinking and able to design scalable information architecture across multiple platforms.
  • Deeply experienced in working within open-source communities, alongside core contributors and maintainers.
  • Knowledge of community governance, licensing, attribution, and IP considerations.
  • Familiar with policy design, safety, and moderation in digital communities.
  • Fluent in English and proficient in Spanish or another language that aligns closely with our target audiences.

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with Godot or comparable open-source gaming ecosystems.
  • Knowledge of game development, edtech, or creative digital spaces.
  • Youth/educational community experience; game jams or open-learning events.

Success Measures

  • Sustained community growth with high participation and inclusive engagement.
  • Comprehensive, accessible resources, and incentives that drive participation and peer support.
  • Evidence-based iteration guided by actionable metrics and community feedback.
  • Seamless, secure, and accessible infrastructure supporting community engagement and interoperability.
  • Consistent enforcement of safety models and code of conduct with clear incident resolution.
